Cooking Instructions:
To Barbecue – cook on low heat for approx 20 minutes, 10 minutes per side. Turn with tongs and do not pierce with fork during cooking as this releases much of the moisture in the sausage.
To Pan Fry – Place approx 1 tablespoon of oil in skillet and put on low heat, place sausage in skillet and cook for approx 10 minutes each side, add more oil as needed.
To Roast in Oven – Turn on oven and heat to moderate. Place sausage in heatproof dish that allows the sausage room to expand during cooking so all the coils cook evenly and drizzle 1 tbsp olive oil over sausage. Do not cover. Put in oven. Turn sausage over after 10 minutes. Continue cooking for another 10 minutes. Check and coook for additional 10 minutes if necessary.
In Water – In a large skillet, put enough water to cover the sausage and cook over medium heat for 30 to 40 minutes. Turn the boerewors occasionally and finish by browning lightly in the skillet after the liquid has evaporated.

Ilonka make the best boerewors out of all the varieties I have tried. I am south african so I know. Whatever you do, don’t change your recipe. Great taste whether you cook it moist or dry, in a pan or over the coals, and great hot or cold. Keep it up.
